About Dr. Bederman

Samuel Bederman, MD, PhD, FRCSC, of Restore Orthopedics and Spine Center in Orange, California, is a double-fellowship trained orthopedic spine surgeon. Dr. Bederman specializes in adult and pediatric scoliosis, robotic spine surgery, complex spinal deformities and revision surgeries, as well as microsurgical and minimally invasive surgery for cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine problems.

Originally hailing from Canada, Dr. Bederman received his bachelor’s in mathematics and statistics from the University of Western Ontario. He attended medical school at the University of Toronto and remained there to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery. He then became a research fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada in Orthopaedic Surgery and also completed a spine fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia.

After completing his first fellowship, he returned to the University of Toronto to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy in health services research and clinical epidemiology. Soon after, Dr. Bederman completed his second clinical fellowship, this time at the University of California at San Francisco, specializing in scoliosis, spinal deformities, and revision spinal surgery.

A passionate educator, Dr. Bederman has taught at the University of California at San Francisco, Stanford University, and the University of California at Irvine. He has trained dozens of surgeons around the country in robotic spine surgery techniques. In addition, he has spoken on spinal surgery at medical society meetings all around the world and authored numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles.

Dr. Bederman is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society, the North American Spine Society, the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine, AOSpine North America, the American Orthopaedic Association, and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
